This story is amazing because you will notice from the beginning how one person could make the big mistake to allow jealousy to blind him from the truth and putting all his position in danger just because trusts in the wrong people.

The self-sounding drum caused neighboring nations, including the warrior state of Goguryeo, to hesitate about attacking Nakrang. A prince of Goguryeo named Hodong infiltrated Nakrang with the mission of destroying the drum. But the prince unexpectedly fell in love with the princess of Nakrang. For her love, the princess eventually chose to tear off the drum to betray her country. As a result, her nation fell into ruin and she was killed. Prince Hodong mourned over her death, holding her body.

In my humble opinion, this is one of the most beautiful stories of Korean folk. One love triangle normally ends badly and this is no exception. Two sisters and the grandson of  HaeYuri. The kingdom is in its early state but strong like never, maybe in the best moment.

If this story is really true, it’s very sad! These real heroes had very bad moments in their life and they dedicate their lives to the country.

Note: don’t get confused, the same actor from jumong play his grandson, Let’s say they were very similar back then.

About the thematic, I will say that some times a curse is necessary to save one country, and this is the case.

Key Point

“Bossam: Steal the Fate” is a Korean television drama series that aired in 2021. Set during the Joseon Dynasty, which spanned from the 14th to the late 19th century, the show revolves around the practice of bossam, a traditional Korean custom where a widowed woman is kidnapped and married off to a widower to provide her with a new family and protect her from societal stigma.

Summary

The story follows Ba-Woo (played by Jung Il-woo), a skilled and charismatic gambler who accidentally kidnaps Princess Soo-Kyung (played by Kwon Yuri), the daughter of King Gwanghae. As they spend time together, a bond develops between them, and they find themselves caught in a complex web of political intrigue and personal desires.

The show skillfully combines elements of romance, historical drama, and action. It delves into the intricacies of the Joseon Dynasty, shedding light on the social hierarchy, power struggles, and the lives of ordinary people during that time. While the main focus is on the developing relationship between Ba-Woo and Princess Soo-Kyung, the series also touches upon themes of loyalty, sacrifice, and the pursuit of freedom.

Although “Bossam: Steal the Fate” is a fictional story, it provides viewers with a glimpse into the Joseon Dynasty and its customs. Bossam itself was a historical practice, although it is important to note that the show takes creative liberties in its portrayal. It is not based on a specific important event in Korean history, but it offers a unique perspective on the customs and societal dynamics of the time.

Overall, “Bossam: Steal the Fate” is an engaging and well-crafted television series that combines historical elements with a captivating plot. It offers an entertaining viewing experience while also shedding light on a fascinating period in Korean history.

Gwanghae’s reign was characterized by his efforts to implement various reforms and strengthen the central government. He emphasized practical governance and sought to improve the lives of the common people.

Editor Comment

Besides all previous portraits of Lee Bang Won, these tv series show a very human and empathic, Family man. With good intentions, and are the time and the events that transform Lee Bang Woo into a monster everybody knows in history. Maybe this is a more accurate view of this King since his achievements look like come from a good guy with a very long-term and strategic mind.
